Hirschauer Recognizes Veterans Day, Highlights Legislation to Support Veterans

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To honor veterans this Veterans Day, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is celebrating the contributions of veterans and highlighting her work to support veterans.

“Veterans Day is a time to reflect and thank our service people who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom,” Hirschauer said. “It is important to recognize the contribution of our veterans and highlight ways that veterans can access resources here in Illinois.”

Hirschauer, who sits on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, has supported numerous pieces of legislation to support the health and success of veterans as they return to their communities.  This year, Hirschauer supported HR 62 to investigate the COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home and hold people accountable for the crisis. Hirschauer also co-sponsored HB 130 to grant Veterans of World War II property tax exemptions.

“As we prepare to return to Springfield in January, veterans’ issues remain at the forefront of building a stronger Illinois,” Hirschauer said. “I will continue to support measures to ensure that our veterans receive the resources they deserve.”

Hirschauer-Backed Legislation Supports Manufacturers, Economic Growth

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To help manufacturers reinvest in the local workforce and build a greener economy, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, supported legislation to provide tax incentives for auto producers and manufacturers in the electric vehicles industry.

“The popularity of electric vehicles is on the rise, and this gives Illinois auto makers the opportunity to bring more jobs to our communities while investing in sustainable energy,” Hirschauer said. “This legislation will reward manufacturers who choose to do business in Illinois and create jobs for our local communities.”

Hirschauer is a sponsor of the Reimagining Electric Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois), creating tax credits for manufacturers who add or create new jobs in Illinois.  The tax credits can be used for various operating costs like job training and construction costs. This legislation passed both the house and senate during October’s veto session and has been sent to the governor.

“As we continue to recover from the pandemic, it is essential to give our local business owners and manufacturers the opportunity to get back on track and reinvest in the economy,” Hirschauer said. “With initiatives like REV Illinois, our state can reward our local manufacturers and attract new businesses and opportunities for employment.”

Hirschauer Highlights October as National Manufacturing Month

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To celebrate the essential role of manufacturing in the economy and the community, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is highlighting October as National Manufacturing Month.

“Manufacturers have always been essential to Illinois’ economy,” Hirschauer said. “After a tough year with limitations posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to highlight the resiliency and contributions that these manufacturers make in our communities.”

Hirschauer has supported numerous measures to help businesses and manufacturers get back on track after obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Hirschauer supported House Bill 2454, creating the Back to Business grants for employers in manufacturing and numerous other industries. These programs will invest in local economic redevelopment, waive fees for businesses struggling due to the pandemic, and help businesses operate safely. Earlier this month, Hirschauer participated in a local manufacturing month tour of Suncast Corporation with students from Batavia High School. In total, this event hosted over 450 students from the local region to encourage students to explore high paying careers in manufacturing.

“Manufacturers help to create local jobs and are the engines of numerous communities across the state,” Hirschauer said. “By supporting Illinois manufacturers this month and every month, we can build back a stronger economy.”

Hirschauer Highlights New Safe2Help Illinois Program for Illinois Students

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To promote the availability of mental health and school safety services for students, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is bringing awareness to the new Safe2Help Illinois program for K-12 students.

“Unfortunately, we continue to see school shootings happen regularly throughout the United States,” said Hirschauer. “In response to these shootings and to prevent future crises, we need to ensure we are providing the best possible resources to all students to ensure preventative measures are in place before a tragedy occurs in one of our schools. This Safe2Help Illinois program is a step in that direction.”

In response to the fatal school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the Illlinois Terrorism Task Force led a working group made up of law enforcement and educators from around Illinois to identify school safety issues and come up with practical solutions. The Safe2Help hotline was a recommendation from the working group. The Safe2Help hotline is a 24-hour program where students can use a free app, text/phone, or the website (Safe2HelpIL.com) to share school safety issues in a confidential environment. Information obtained by Safe2Help Illinois will remain confidential to ensure student privacy and to protect the integrity of the program.  This program is not intended to suspend, expel or punish students; rather, the goal is to encourage students to “Seek Help Before Harm.”. Safe2Help Illinois is available 24/7, and at no cost to all school districts in the state. Once vetted, the information will be shared immediately with local school officials, mental health professionals and/or local law enforcement, depending on the nature of the information. The program also will help local officials by connecting them with mental health resources or other appropriate tools to intervene and help students before they harm themselves or others. For more information, visit: https://www.safe2helpil.com/

“While this new program is a huge step in the right direction to end school emergencies, more still needs to be done,” continued Hirschauer. “I will continue to fight for proper mental health resources that are accessible and affordable for all, and gun safety laws that will ensure tragedies like these will never have to happen again.”

Hirschauer Highlights October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To raise awareness of domestic violence and support survivors, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is highlighting Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“A huge part of prevention is education, and October provides us the opportunity to learn how to recognize signs of a domestic abuse situation,” Hirschauer said. “Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of their age, race or gender.”

According to the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in seven men are victims of domestic violence. Warning signs of an abusive relationship could be possessiveness, verbal abuse, controlling behavior, controlling finances and abuse of animals. Hirschauer was a sponsor on legislation to create the Domestic Violence Task Force to establish a consistent, uniform statewide system to protect the victims and survivors of domestic violence and hold offenders accountable.

“Everyone is deserving of relationships that are free from abuse,” Hirschauer said. “At the state level, we are working towards a system that provides the resources people need to escape abusive situations and hold abusers accountable.”

Hirschauer Informs Residents of Booster Shot Availability for Certain Communities

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – Continuing her efforts to provide information on all COVID-19 vaccine clinics and information, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is informing residents of the availability of COVID-19 Booster shots for certain populations.

“As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the state with the insurgence of the Delta Variant, it’s important that we all take the proper precautions and steps necessary to protect ourselves and those around us that are most vulnerable, like our seniors and those with underlying health conditions,” said Hirschauer. “Booster shots are a way for immunocompromised communities and seniors to better protect themselves from the ongoing surge in COVID cases.”

The Center for Disease Control and Illinois Department of Public Health recommend the following groups get booster shots:

  • People 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series.
  • People aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series.
  • People aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.
  • People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.

Individuals may contact their health care provider or visit www.vaccines.gov to find a nearby location to receive a booster dose.

“As researchers and health professionals continue to research the most effective ways to stay safe, it’s imperative we listen and trust the science,” continued Hirschauer. “In addition to wearing masks, washing hands frequently and social distancing, everyone should look to get the vaccine if they are able to.”

Hirschauer Highlights Financial Assistance for Low Income Families

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To ensure families have the proper resources necessary to live, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is highlighting the Low-Income Household Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Community Services Block Grant Program (CSBG).

“For families struggling to make ends meet, these community assistance programs are necessary to ensure every resident has the resources necessary to live a healthy life,” said Hirschauer. “Many families struggled financially prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and COVID has only made the situation worse. These funds are a lifeline for many families.”

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity just announced $327 million in new funding for LIHEAP and CSBG. LIHEAP and CSBG offers financial assistance for vulnerable residents to use on rent, utilities, food and other household expenses. To qualify for LIHEAP, households must demonstrate they meet the expanded income requirements of 200% of the poverty level, regardless of immigration status.  Recommended documents for application include Social Security Number, or I-TIN, or other identification and proof of income. Applicants need to supply their utility bill for LIHEAP and lease for rental assistance. The remote application for LIHEAP and CSBG is available now on helpillinoisfamilies.com. To help eliminate any barriers to the application process, the State also provides a hotline service with multilingual assistance in over 30 languages. Residents may visit their local CAA in-person or call the hotline at 1-833-711-0374.

“This program is essential for helping our neighbors in need,” continued Hirschauer. “I highly recommend sharing this information with anyone it could help. As a state, we are focused on supporting all families.”

Hirschauer to Host I-Cash Event for Residents to Reclaim their Property

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To help residents reclaim their property from the state, state Rep. Maura Hirschauer, D-Batavia, is hosting an I-Cash event with the Illinois Treasurer’s Office on Oct. 13 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Charles Public Library, located at 1 S. 6th Ave. in St. Charles.

“There are countless residents across the state that do not know their property is being held by the state until they claim it,” Hirschauer said. “By teaming up with the Treasurer’s office to host these I-Cash events, we are ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to look and see if they have unclaimed property.”

State Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ office has nearly $2.5 billion in unclaimed property. Unclaimed property comes in many forms, such as savings and checking accounts, customer deposits, payroll checks, refund checks and more. During the event, a representative from the treasurers’ office will be available to check the I-Cash database, explain the steps to reclaiming property and answer any questions from attendees.

“The I-Cash database is always getting updated, so I suggest everyone take advantage of the opportunity to connect with the treasurer’s office,” Hirschauer said. “Every dollar counts, especially as families continue to recover from setbacks caused by the pandemic.”
